Create a world

free from violence & abuse

The Ortner Center on Violence & Abuse is a research and education center at the University of Pennsylvania's School of Social Policy & Practice. We are dedicated to increasing women's well-being by identifying societal changes that might affect women, girls, and gender non-conforming individuals, using the latest technological advances in qualitative and quantitative research, and developing the next generation of national and global leaders.

On-campus gatherings

The in-person learning component is a key part of our educational model. The required 3-day convening will take place at the University of Pennsylvania during late winter / early Spring 2020. Strengthen relationships within your cohort and build on ideas and connections that can be drawn upon for years to come. Participants are welcome to return to campus for an optional 2-day convening and commencement ceremony at the end of the program.

We recognize that your work is nuanced and unique, so choose two electives that are the best fit for you. You're welcome to audit all of the other electives, too.

- Community & Collaboration

- Data Science

- Ethics

- Impact Management

- Nonprofit Fundraising

- Nonprofit Governance

- Social Media Strategy

Participants are invited to join an optional, weekly video call. The calls serve as informal office hours in which the teaching team and participants discuss the courses, assignments, and catch up with one another.

Video hangouts

All assignments will be individually completed and assessed by our teaching teams. We've designed the assignments to address your existing work, to an idea, or to one of our case studies. We want the assignments to be directly relevant to the real-world issues that you face.
